Teaching the BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice: A Musical Futures Approach
‘Teaching the BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice; a Musical Futures Approach’ offers the opportunity for attendees to explore strategies for teaching BTEC music vocational qualifications with students who have thrived through a practical approach to learning at KS3.
Led by a classroom music teacher with experience of delivering BTEC music qualifications, the course will give delegates an opportunity to see ideas of how to use Musical Futures approaches and online resources to enhance learning and make the course accessible for all students, whatever their background and prior learning.
The course will also touch upon understanding the specification and assessment and facilitate a discussion to sharing a variety of approaches to more bespoke components.
Note: This professional development course is delivered by Lucy Dalton – Musical Futures Champion Teacher and experienced teacher of music – who delivers the BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice in her own setting. Representatives from Pearson are not present.
Access to our Musical Futures Online resource platform Ultimate membership (worth £199 + VAT) is included as part of this course.
Aims of the Course:
- How to apply the key principles of Musical Futures pedagogy and the rationale behind the approach to support the teaching of BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice.
- Learn how to approach the development of knowledge and understanding through relevant and authentic musical activities.
- Develop an understanding of the impact of learning through performance-based activity.
- Learn how to approach performance, composition and production tasks in an innovative, engaging and student-friendly way that gives students the best opportunity to succeed.
- Understand how Musical Futures approaches and Musical Futures Online resources can be utilised to support learning at this level.
