Rethinking Engagement in Music: Supporting neurodivergent learners
Discover practical adaptations and flexible teaching approaches to support neurodivergent learners in music lessons.

Join neuro-inclusion specialist Jess Meredith (Differing Minds) for an interactive CPD session exploring practical ways to make music lessons more accessible and engaging for all pupils, including those with diagnosed and undiagnosed neurodivergence.
What We’ll Cover
This 60-minute session aimed at primary school teachers will help teachers move from ‘trying to get everyone to engage in the same way’ to confidently enabling different forms of participation, using music as a flexible tool and the music classroom as a flexible environment. It will focus on the most common forms of neurodiversity (ADHD, ASD, sensory and processing difficulties).
Teachers will explore:
- What engagement actually looks like for different learners
- How to maintain high expectations without rigid behaviour models
- How to adapt existing music activities (rather than creating new ones)
The webinar will be facilitated by Émilie Bels, Sing Up’s Partnerships Manager, who will draw on her experience as a vocal leader and educator to connect these ideas to real-world music teaching.
