Music Education & AI — Friend or Foe?
Explore the ethics of AI in music education, not just as a threat or a tool, but as a lens through which to explore access, equity and what music education is really for.

AI is composing music. It’s generating backing tracks, arranging scores and producing content at a scale and speed no human can match. For music educators, this raises urgent and fascinating questions and inclusion leaders are uniquely placed to shape how the sector responds.
In this session, we examine AI’s growing role in music creation and technology, not just as a threat or a tool, but as a lens through which to explore access, equity and what music education is really for. Could AI composition tools widen who gets to participate in music-making? And what are the ethical implications of the data that underpins it all?
This is a session for inclusion leads and music education professionals who want to think critically and creatively about the future of their field.
For this session SLS 360’s Sam Stimpson is joined by Max Wheeler from Charanga.
