Primary Classroom Visiting Music Teachers
We are seeking primary classroom music teachers to deliver whole class instrument lessons and curriculum projects in schools across West Sussex - but we have a particular need of teachers in Worthing and Crawley / East Grinstead areas and welcome candidates who can teach in these locations.

As a visiting classroom music teacher, you will be responsible for providing high-quality and inspiring music education to children and young people, fostering a love for music, and helping children develop their musical interests. Whilst some administrative tasks are required within the role, your main focus will be on teaching whole-classes of key stage 1 and key stage 2 pupils in schools across West Sussex delivering our Classroom Instrumental Lessons (CIL) programmes: GetIn2Music; 1Term2Learn; Key2Music.
This role involves teaching during school hours at multiple schools. For the right candidate additional teaching opportunities may be available after-school hours or at weekends at one of our Music Centres, or during school holidays as part of our Holiday Activities.
The hourly rate of pay is £31.45, paid monthly in arrears via PAYE.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging and inspiring classroom instrumental music lessons to pupils.
- Create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages children and young people to explore their creativity and express themselves through music.
- Assess and evaluate pupils’ progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and guidance to help them improve their musical abilities.
- Fulfil day-to-day teaching administration duties and consult with schools via email and telephone.
- Prepare pupils to progress their learning towards regular performances.
- Collaborate with other music teachers and school staff to organise and participate in pupil recruitment events.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, mentoring, and quality assurance.
- Comply with company policies and mandatory training requirements.
- Understand and follow our safeguarding policies and procedures and appropriately raise any issues of concern in order to protect children.
- Maintain accurate records using our in-house database, scheduling, and attendance recording software (SpeedAdmin and Microsoft 365).
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience as a classroom (or instrumental) music teacher in a school or educational setting.
- High-level performer able to play one or more musical instruments (Grade 5 minimum standard), with a strong command of music theory.
- Experience of teaching online via Teams or Zoom is desirable.
- Excellent communication and people skills to effectively engage with pupils, schools, and colleagues.
- Ability to adapt inclusive teaching methods to accommodate pupils of different ages, learning styles, and skill levels.
- Strong organisational and time management skills to effectively plan lessons and manage multiple students.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for music education.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications – Outlook, Word, Excel – and able to learn other platforms.
- Commitment to inclusion and youth voice.
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week.
