ABRSM Piano Seminar – Winchester

This session offers an in‑depth exploration of the updated repertoire, examining new highlights and much-loved favourites. Practical teaching strategies will be shared throughout, including holistic approaches to introducing unfamiliar styles and ideas that balance technique with creativity.

Pianist Samantha Carrasco explores a diverse and flexible repertoire as a recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. Notable performances as a soloist have included Grieg, Schumann, Tchaikovsky No.1, Rachmaninoff No.2, Mozart and Beethoven piano concertos. As orchestral pianist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, highlights have included performing at the BBC Proms and Stravinsky’s Petrushka with live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. Samantha formed The Austen Trio, and performed in celebrations of the Jane Austen Bicentenary in 2017 and at Harvard University in 2018.

Samantha studied piano with Yonty Solomon at the Royal College of Music, London, where she was awarded an Exhibition Scholarship followed by the prestigious Phoebe Benham and Leverhulme Junior Fellowship. She completed a PhD in 2013 entitled The Austen Family Music Books and Hampshire Music Culture, 1770-1820, which studied the music collection of Jane Austen and her family.

Samantha is an examiner, trainer, reviewer and presenter for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, working nationally and internationally in classical music, diplomas and jazz. She presents teaching and examining seminars on behalf of ABRSM in China, the USA and the UK and presented a number of practice and pedagogical videos over the lockdown. Samantha is the Head of Keyboard at Peter Symonds College, Winchester, and helps to run the Hampshire Specialist Music Course. Samantha participates in BSO Live! education projects and has made various performance presentation podcasts and videos.

  • To make the most of the session, please bring your own Piano Exam Pieces 2027 & 2028 books with you. Pre-order your books before the event.
