Stories in Sound
Added to website 28/04/2025.
Explore the mystery and magic of Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique with Aurora Orchestra. This resource for KS2 focuses on music’s ability to tell a story and has a strong composition thread throughout the pre-planned unit, plus two new songs and focused listening activities.
Create your own stories in sound with Aurora Orchestra, inspired by Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique and the story of Ava and the Lord of the Shadows. Learn about the interrelated dimensions of music, compose pieces that can express emotion and depict a scene, and develop musical skills and understanding through a variety of beautiful films, songs and stories.
You can choose to follow our pre-planned 10-week units of work or build your own programme by exploring our Activity and Audio Libraries. Your pupils can also share their learning at home with our Music at Home section.
Children can play along with Aurora Orchestra using our bespoke ‘flex-ensemble’ arrangement of the third movement of the symphony which can be found in our Ensemble performance library.
