Join Aurora Orchestra on a journey to explore Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, singing and performing, composition and the interrelated dimensions of music. This resource, for KS2 and SEND settings, explores the relationship between music and emotions and includes a beautiful animated film.
Join members of Aurora Orchestra as we explore Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, through the story of Nate and his dog, Luna. Learn about the interrelated dimensions of music, explore how music can express emotion, and develop musical skills and understanding through a variety of beautiful films, songs and stories.
This KS2 unit gives children the opportunity to:
- experience performances by Aurora Orchestra and individual musicians
listen and respond to extracts from the symphony - explore characters and how music can express emotion
- sing in parts
- perform instrumental parts in a class ensemble using tuned and untuned percussion instruments
- learn about the seven interrelated dimensions of music: dynamics, tempo, duration, structure, pitch, texture and timbre
- apply the interrelated dimensions in composition and improvise their own pieces in response to a stimulus
- prepare a ‘class symphony’ performance to share with an audience
- share their learning at home
You can choose to follow our pre-planned 10-week unit of work or build your own programme by exploring our Activity and Audio Libraries which can be used in the classroom during the week.
Children learning an instrument in Whole Class Ensemble Teaching, in small group lessons or small ensembles can also play along with Aurora Orchestra using our bespoke arrangements and backing tracks for each movement of the symphony.
