Create and Sing is a dramatic singing project that will inspire a generation of schoolchildren to engage with opera through story, character and song, unlocking their imagination and creativity.

The programme is free for schools across the country with open-access digital resources linked to the National Curriculum for teachers to use in lessons over their choice of a 2, 5 or 10 week-period. The programme is aimed at Key Stage 1 and 2 and also includes National Curriculum links for Key Stage 3.

Next Step

From September 2019, the Royal Opera House will offer a new version of Create and Sing, based on Engelbert Humperdinck’s famous opera Hansel and Gretel. These new resources will sit alongside Create and Sing’s already popular Carmen resources on the ROH learning platform.

The full programme includes teacher training, classroom films, lesson plans and resources to use in ways that suit the needs of the teachers and their students. Teachers do not need any previous knowledge of opera in order to take part.
