‘Notification, Conversation, Celebration’ – Kent Music’s Orchestra ONE

24th May 2021

Orchestra ONE’ is a long running project led by Kent Music which has taken on a new, online form. Their most recent project saw young musicians tackling the theme of ‘communication’. Prior to the start of the project, Kent Music asked 17 young musicians to think about how they communicate and how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected this. They then worked with expert musicians to transform these ideas into melodies and lyrics to create a short suite of music entirely from scratch. The young musicians also created artwork in response to the topic, which combined with the music that they composed to form an overall performance titled ‘Notification – Conversation – Celebration’.

The team was led by Musical Director Jason Rowland, supported by a team of musicians and staff from Kent Music.

Orchestra ONE – the Orchestra of New Experiences – is a large ensemble for young musicians between the ages of 8 and 18. Members of Orchestra ONE come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and create their own original music during each four day project. Every project offers a new experience influenced by changing themes, collaborations and specialist tutor teams but most importantly by the young musicians’ own interests, styles and instrumentation. Participants range from long term members to newcomers which ensures support and renewal as Orchestra ONE continues to develop.
