Listen, play, learn and have fun at Flute day with Wissam Boustany

John Packer Ltd and Queens College, Taunton are delighted to present a fantastic day of flute playing and learning with flautists Wissam Boustany and Candice Regan, and pianist Aleksander Sram.

On Saturday 12 September, flute players of Grade 4 and above standard will have the chance to participate in masterclasses and ensemble work lead by professional musicians. The day will comprise of masterclass sessions with Wissam and Aleksander for advanced players, and tone and technique with Candice for players of Grade 4+ standard, as well as ensemble work. All participants can listen to Wissam’s teaching during the masterclass sessions, and even if you don’t wish to play during the day you are very welcome to sit back and enjoy the day as an auditor. During the day, a question and answer session will be held – a great opportunity to ask professional musicians on all things flute and performance related!

The day will culminate in a flute a piano recital at 7pm in the Performing Arts Centre, Queen’s College, Taunton, held by Wissam, Aleksander and Candice. International flautist Wissam Boustany is well-renowned for inspiring audiences with his energetic and communicative performances. Embracing a wide repertoire, Wissam has developed a keen interest in introducing the music of today within the context of imaginative program planning, combining the innovative with the traditional. After studying at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, Wissam has established himself as one of only a few flautists who has launched a successful career as an international soloist. Wissam has also worked as an orchestral player, including work with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and currently teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Aleksander Sram was awarded the Wilner scholarship to study at Trinity College of Music, where he won prizes for piano, chamber music, vocal accompaniment and composition, including first place in the John Halford and John Longmire Piano Competitions. He was also awarded the TCM Trust Silver Medal and the Joan Greenfield Fellowship used to fund study for his MMus Degree. Aleksander is particularly interested in the performance of contemporary repertoire, premiering works by several composers, and has performed in many of the major UK venues, including previous collaborations with Wissam Boustany.

Alongside her work as the Flute Specialist at John Packer, Candice is a top flight professional flautist and has played with the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, the City of London Sinfonia and the RTE Symphony Orchestra. In between professional engagements, Candice has long experience as a teacher both in the education system and privately.
