Faber Music: Music Teaching for SEN

29th April 2026

Faber Music and Sound Connections launched a research project in 2023 to gain deeper insights into the changing wants and needs of music educators and students across the UK. The survey reached the teachers of around 24,000 students and highlighted some main pain points for teachers following the pandemic. A key finding was the desire for greater equity and accessibility in terms of materials and working with students with specific needs.

Following conversations with staff about the best ways to put into practice the education research, Faber Music is now publishing David Baker’s Music Teaching for Special Educational Needs.

The text provides a comprehensive guide for instrumental teachers, offering a solid foundation for understanding and supporting music students with additional needs. It covers dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder and visual, auditory and physical disabilities, and is packed with up-to-date information, helpful pedagogical starting points, case studies, practical advice, ideas for reflective practice and further reading.

Music Teaching for SEND was published by Faber Music on 22nd April 2026.

ISBN: 9780571543656, RRP: £19.99, €26.99, $27,99
