Bridget Whyte, CEO, Announces Resignation

8th January 2026

Bridget Whyte has today announced that she will be stepping down from her role as Chief Executive Officer following nearly nine years of service to Music Mark.

Bridget is keen to support a smooth transition and allow sufficient time for the appointment of her successor, including a short handover period. She will therefore be leaving in the summer. The Board of Trustees will outline the recruitment timetable in due course, following their next meeting at the end of January.

On announcing this news, Bridget stated:

“Whilst there are exciting times ahead for music education as we start 2026, I believe I have completed most of what I had hoped to achieve as CEO and therefore feel this is the right time for me and for Music Mark to prepare to hand on the baton to someone else. They can then take things forward, alongside the amazing team and Board of Trustees I have had the privilege to work with since taking over in 2017.”

Peter Smalley, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said:

“It has been a great pleasure to work with Bridget, as a Board member, and more recently as Chair, during her time as CEO of Music Mark. She has led the organisation through challenging times, including the COVID Pandemic, the reorganisation of English Music Hubs, and continual strain on funding streams across the whole country.

She is highly regarded in the UK music education sector as a compassionate voice of reason, with a passion to support the sector for the ultimate benefit of children and young people. Her wisdom, counsel, and leadership will be sorely missed.”

We are deeply grateful for Bridget’s leadership, commitment, and impact, and will celebrate her contribution further as we prepare for the future.
