Auditions open for children aged 8-14 to join NCO 2024

10th July 2023

It’s that time of year again where The National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain (NCO) opens its arms (and ears!) to video auditions from 8-14 year olds interested in joining NCO 2024. Children from all backgrounds who play orchestral instruments are invited to audition to join NCO’s National or Projects programmes for the coming year.

NCO’s annual programme includes 650 young musicians coming together in three National orchestras for residential activities and in four regional Projects orchestras for non-residential weekends, all supported by an online programme.

The Projects programme welcomes orchestras of up to 100 members to take part in orchestral weekends in Bolton, Birmingham and two sites in London. Members play a dynamic programme including well known orchestral music, plus new pieces, body percussion and more! They are joined by guest artists the likes of Jess Gillam, Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Nate Holder. Watch Projects come to life in this new NCO film below!

The National programme brings together young musicians into age-banded symphony orchestras for two residentials a year, each culminating in an astounding public concert. Members explore a range of orchestral music which celebrates the greats, the lesser-known greats and brilliant new music! They also throw themselves into NCO’s Surround Sound programme – where composition, creativity and collaboration allow children to express their musicality and team working in the creation of new music they can call their own.

Auditions are free and by video and should be submitted by 9am Monday 31st July 2023.
