22nd July 2021

Applications are now open for National Youth Choirs of Great Britain’s (NYCGB’s) Young Composers and Fellowship schemes for emerging professional musicians, for programmes taking place in 2022.

According to their latest press release NYCGB’s striving to build an inclusive community and wants to help achieve meaningful and balanced representation in the areas of composition for vocal ensembles and choral leadership.

NYCGB are strongly encouraging young people of Black, Asian & ethnically diverse backgrounds to apply for these programmes, applications from disabled people as well as those from lower income households.

Both the Fellowship and Young Composers schemes are free training programmes and expenses are covered by NYCGB. The Fellowship programme for emerging choral leaders aged 20-27 is open to applications from outstanding young choral musicians who want to develop their skills as performers, educators, leaders and professionals.

Applicants must be aged 20+ on 1st September 2021 and under 28 on 31st August 2022.

The programme offers enhanced opportunities to develop ambitious and creative young musicians who want to become part of the professional choral network, as well as to re-shape it.

Now in its fourth year, NYCGB Young Composers champions the development, innovation and diversity of new choral music. Emerging composers aged 18-29 benefit from a range of residential courses, creative retreats, workshops, peer and professional mentoring and performance showcases along with expert advice and tuition from distinguished composers.

The scheme is open to aspiring young composers aged 18+ on 1 September 2021 and under 30 on 31 August 2022 who demonstrate clear ability, potential, and a passion for creating high-quality, imaginative new music for vocal ensembles

NYCGB said: “The professional development and training received on these widely-respected programmes is of the highest quality, and participants are mentored and inspired by leading national and international industry professionals.”
