ABRSM Performance Grades

ABRSM’s Performance Grades are a new remotely-assessed exam that is all about performance. They are an exciting addition to ABRSM’s trusted pathways of regulated assessments and have been designed to complement ABRSM’s existing Practical Grades.
Why take a Performance Grade?
- They are flexible and accessible. Create your own performance in your home or elsewhere, featuring four pieces of music that are special to you
- You have greater musical choice: you choose 3 pieces from the syllabus and one own choice piece, you choose how you arrange them into a programme, and you choose how you best put across your own musical interests, tastes, strengths and personality
- They bring the essential performance skills of communication, interpretation and storytelling to a regulated qualification
- You have a wealth of rich and exciting music to draw on, in ABRSM syllabuses and beyond
Performance Grades are not replacing ABRSM’s existing Practical Grades but offer an additional progression route. Practical Grades and Performance Grades share repertoire lists and you can choose to switch between Performance and Practical exams as you progress through the grades. The exams are equivalent in demand and value to ABRSM’s existing graded music exams, but have a different emphasis, with a focus on performance.
