ABRSM partners with Hal Leonard Europe to create Singing for Musical Theatre songbooks

28th November 2019

Hal Leonard Europe, Europe’s largest printed music publisher and distributor has teamed up with the world’s leading provider of music exams to jointly publish a new range of songbooks in support of ABRSM’s Singing for Musical Theatre exam syllabus. This new initiative combines Hal Leonard’s pedigree as the leading source of musical theatre repertoire in print with ABRSM’s pathways for musical achievement.

These long-awaited volumes present a great range of songs drawn from both classic and contemporary stage and screen musicals. They reflect the breadth and variety of a genre which has perhaps never been more popular, as demonstrated by the rapturous reception to the launch of the Singing for Musical Theatre syllabus in October 2018 by teachers and their students keen to develop their skills by singing the songs they love.

The first three books, complementing grades 1, 2 and 3 respectively, will be released on 28 November 2019. Each folio contains 12 songs, giving candidates a selection from Lists A, B and C of the syllabus at each grade. Shows and films represented include The Jungle Book, The Sound of Music, Les Misérables, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Matilda the Musical and The Greatest Showman – perfect for exam preparation or singing purely for pleasure.

The new books are exclusively distributed worldwide by Hal Leonard Europe, and are available from all good music shops.

We are thrilled to be publishing these graded Singing for Musical Theatre collections with the ABRSM and to be exclusively distributing them to our trade customers in the UK and around the world. These collections contain specially selected songs from some of the best-known musicals and provide teachers and students with a fantastic resource for young voices that are ideal for auditions as well as the exams.” – Mark Mumford, Managing Director, Hal Leonard Europe

“ABRSM and Hal Leonard have combined their world-renowned expertise in syllabus development and music publishing to develop this wonderful new resource for singers. We look forward to building on the hugely successful launch of our Singing for Musical Theatre syllabus with these fabulous new supporting books” – Jeremy Phillips, Executive Director: Commercial, ABRSM
