My interests include all aspects of music education and currently include how music teachers think about their subject pedagogy and ways that teachers can develop as researchers. I have undertaken research projects in the field of music teaching and ITE, including subject knowledge and skills development in music teachers (TDA/DfE), developing cross-curricular teaching and learning (SCAT), the effectiveness and educational use of web-based music resources (ABRSM) and the analysis of assessment strategies in initial teacher education. I recently led the research evaluation of The Sage Gateshead Young Musicians Programme."

“Before becoming Subject Leader for PGCE Music at University College London (UCL), I taught in inner-London as an Advanced Skills Teacher of Music, Assistant Headteacher and Director of Music. As part of my Advanced Skills Teacher role, I founded Westminster Youth Orchestra and led CPD courses for instrumental and classroom music practitioners in the local authority. I also deliver national CPD courses for music teachers and Heads of Department.
