Young Musicians Development Lead

Opera North is England’s national opera company in the North and one of Europe’s leading arts organisations. Its’ Education department works with professional artists to deliver opera related participative arts and family performance activity by, with and for people of all ages across the north of England each year; Pathways activity supports children and young people who demonstrate the potential and enthusiasm to develop beyond first access choral and instrumental provision.

An opportunity has arisen within the Education department for a Young Musicians Development Lead to collaborate with colleagues across Opera North, including with players from the Orchestra of Opera North, to oversee the pedagogy and artistic direction of the Young Musicians Studio and fledgling Young Performers Studio; leading a team of specialist tutors to deliver a year-round programme of high quality and engaging tuition.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of musical pedagogy, in relation to instrumental learning and musicianship, and demonstrable experience of leading a team and inspiring others. This post is subject to enhanced DBS clearance.
