We are seeking a specialist instrumentalist and a specialist singer, who are keen to develop skills in teaching. Over the course of the academic year, the post holder will start by supporting Whole Class and large group lessons, and will then take the lead in planning and leading delivery of some of these. The role will also include half a day per week for mentor meetings and study towards the Certificate of Music Education.

We are currently recruiting for:

  • One Trainee Music Leader to undertake training through the CME qualification and to support and teach one of the instrument groups listed below as Whole Class Ensemble Tuition (WCET), Continuation and some after school sessions:

Brass (cornet, baritone, p-bone); Djembe; Flute; Guitar (acoustic); Percussion, including samba; Recorder; Steel Pan; Strings (violin, viola, cello); Ukulele; Woodwind (clarinet, saxophone).

  • One Trainee Music Leader to undertake training through the CME qualification and to support and teach whole class and large group singing, including some after school sessions.

Both posts are temporary contracts for one academic year starting September 2017 and working for the following hours: 29.6 hours per week (0.8 FTE), for 41 weeks (annualised hours = 1213.6 hours per year),

Most of the work takes place during a school day, but we do need people who can offer some flexibility in their working patterns to support our “out of school hours” programmes and our performance programme. The majority of our performances take place either in the evenings or at weekends.

Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service is the lead organisation of the Leicester-Shire Music Education Hub (LMEH) for both the City and County Local Authorities. In a nutshell, our role is to ensure that the core and extension roles outlined in the government’s National Plan for Music Education are fulfilled.

The salary for a Trainee Music Leader is based on a Grade 8 (Full time salary range: £20,727 – £22,658). N.B. The actual salary will be pro rata of this salary range indicated.

Our base is County Hall, Leicester, but you will have a brief for city and county wide work within schools.
