Jersey Music Service is looking for a general teacher of woodwind instruments, with negotiable start date for September 2020 or January 2021. The post holder will be required to teach all woodwind instruments in primary and secondary schools across Jersey and lead or support JMS ensembles, which rehearse after school and on weekends, as required. A general teacher of woodwind instruments is required for Jersey Music Service. The post holder will be required to teach all woodwind instruments in primary and secondary schools across Jersey and lead or support JMS ensembles, which rehearse after school and on weekends, as required. Start date is negotiable for September 2020 or January 2021.

This is a MPS qualified teacher post, and as such the successful candidate will also help with the delivery of the service’s programme of whole class and Orchestral Challenge projects.

Personal Specification:

  • You will be a committed, enthusiastic musician and teacher able to motivate and inspire pupils, and communicate with conviction and sensitivity. You should be receptive to new ideas and be able to work as part of a professional team of teachers dedicated to offering high quality music education.
  • You will have a degree or graduate diploma in music in addition to Qualified Teacher Status or a Certificate for Music Educator’s Qualification with a willingness to undertake training in order to achieve Qualified Teacher Status whilst in post.
  • You will have either several years’ experience in classroom music teaching and an instrumental specialism, or be an instrumental specialist with several years’ experience and be able to teach your family of instruments.

Main Duties

1. To plan, prepare and deliver teaching on a family of instruments. This may include individual, small group and whole class teaching
2. To attend a proportion of School or JMS performances as a representative of the Service
3. To attend INSET training and other relevant meetings at the request of the Principal

4. To ensure professional conduct at all times, and not bring the service, States of Jersey or its employees into disrepute. To act in accordance with the policies and practices of the JMS and the policies of the States of Jersey
5. To fulfil other reasonable duties as required by the Principal

This is a full-time permanent post that will require the successful candidate to relocate to Jersey.
