The main purpose of this post will be to look at all streams of income available from fundraising opportunities including funding applications, corporate giving and large individual donors in order that South Coast Music Partnership (SCMP) can meet its ambitious funding targets.

About South Coast Music Partnership

SCMP is a Consortium appointed by Arts Council England to lead the Music Hub covering Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP), Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton as part of a national programme to provide high-quality music education for all children and young people. 

The Consortium comprises SoundStorm (on behalf of the current BCP Music Hub), Portsmouth Music Service (on behalf of Portsmouth City Council) and Southampton & Isle of Wight Music (on behalf of Southampton City Council and Isle of Wight Council).

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  • In consultation with the Consortium Leadership Team and Extended Leadership Team to develop and manage the fund raising strategy (within the organisational strategy and annual budget and business planning processes). This will include the setting and monitoring of appropriate targets. 
  • To develop and deliver a strategy for corporate and individual donations leading to income generation.
  • To take the lead in the preparation, scheduling and submission of funding applications to public funding bodies, trusts and foundations.
  • To prepare applications for funding projects and produce written proposals to potential funders. 
  • To work with members of the Consortium Leadership Team and Extended Leadership Team to report to, and deliver on, commitments to funders.
  • To initiate, develop and sustain relationships with potential funders, focussing on securing income to benefit all areas of fundraising activity.
  • To develop and manage new methods of fundraising, including Trusts and Foundations, corporate giving, social and cultural organisations and individual donors.
  • To monitor policy changes amongst funding agencies.
  • To monitor and report leveraged and in kind funding across the SCMP region in consultation with the Consortium Leadership Team.
  • To report to, and sit on the Hub Strategic Board.
  • To provide strategic insight and drive the organisational change required to ensure the long term financial sustainability of SCMP.
Person Specification

You will be a strategic thinker and an ambitious fundraiser with a proven track record. 

Ideally you will have experience of raising funds within the arts sector, specifically music and education.

Essential

You will:

  • have a proven track record of recent and substantial success in initiating, managing and delivering grant income from Trusts and foundations
  • have a proven track record of building, managing and leveraging corporate and individual relationships to secure funding
  • be able to demonstrate a successful history of securing income from several public funding bodies, corporate giving and social and cultural organisations
  • be ambitious and target driven
  • have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • have excellent networking and advocacy skills
  • have excellent interpersonal skills along with proven ability to build and maintain working relationships with potential funders
  • possess excellent research and analytical skills
  • have good IT skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • have an excellent understanding of music and education

Desirable

You will:

  • have an understanding of current funding issues for the arts
  • have excellent knowledge of the area served by SCMP
  • have a passion for the arts and working with children and young people

How to Apply

You will be able to work on a freelance basis, and will be expected to work independently and remotely. You must be able to travel to the area covered by South Coast Music Partnership if/as and when needed, and be available to contact during your agreed working hours.
