Primary Music Teacher Coach

£220 full day, £140 half day

Ark Schools pairs teachers with a Primary Music Specialist who works with them in their classroom, coaching them to develop their practice and ensuring learning is tailored to their needs and the needs of their pupils. Our model pairs each teacher with a Primary Music Specialist who works with them in their classroom, coaching them to develop their practice and ensuring learning is tailored to their needs and the needs of their pupils. By placing the class teacher at the forefront of delivery, we can ensure musical learning is embedded into the fabric of our schools and that every child has the opportunity to enjoy a life enriched by music.

We are now seeking to grow the team of Primary Music Specialists who support our work. We are also recruiting for Whole Class Singing, Djembe, Samba and Ukulele teachers. Please get in touch if you’d like to find out more information.

The ideal candidate will:
• possess a kind, supportive and nurturing approach to teaching
• have training or experience of the Kodaly method
• have demonstrable experience in the training and coaching of adults to significantly improve their practice.
• be an outstanding practitioner in the primary phase, in a whole class setting with a particular emphasis on singing.

Key responsibilities: 
• Deliver a programme of professional development for our teachers (both in school and through CPD events), resulting in high quality learning experiences for pupils
• Support on the development of an inclusive model for learning from EYFS – Year 6 which ensures that children leave primary school as fully rounded musicians
• Stay abreast of modern teaching practices
• Attend relevant Ark training days

What else is required of you?
• Willingness to travel within the UK, using public transport whenever practicable
• Willingness to undertake training and open to receiving feedback
• A hunger to do things better and a continuous desire to know more about curriculum, pedagogy, practice and music
• To identify as a musician – you must love music-making for yourself as much as for our pupils

Experience:
• Evidence of raising attainment and participation of all pupils within a challenging environment
• Ability to reflect on own practice and the practice of others in pursuit of improved pupil outcomes
• Experience of drawing on a broad range of musical genres to create a rich and varied pupil experience
• Up to date knowledge of developments and good practice in music education

Placements are on a freelance basis. School placements consists of both half and full days for January (2020), subject to attendance on an initial teacher coach training session (1/2 day). Attendance on further relevant Ark training days throughout the year will be required to fully support our freelancers to develop best practice.

Start date: January 2020 (or ASAP)
Closing date for applications: We are accepting applications on a rolling basis.
Fee: We have a sliding pay-scale depending on the number of hours worked, equating to roughly £220 for a full day and £140 for a half-day.
