Now in its Ninth academic year Bristol Beacon is home to the award-winning music education hub for the city of Bristol. As part of Creative Learning and Engagement (CLE) our Music Hub ensures that all children, whether in schools or community settings, can access and take part in high-quality musical activities.

The Primary Music Lead is responsible for leading and developing music education in primary schools across Bristol. The role will lead on training and supporting teachers in schools and other settings with best practice pedagogy, and through the development of inspiring teaching resources and curriculum. Through the Bristol Musical Schools initiative, the role will establish strategic partnerships with schools, multi academy trusts and cultural organisations to increase opportunities for all children to experience live music, play an instrument, sing, perform and compose. At the heart of this role is a commitment to inclusion and an ability to support schools in diverse communities traditionally less well served than others.

You will be committed to Continuing Professional Development, have strong musical skills and substantial teaching experience and the ability to develop best practice CPD opportunities for practitioners. You will have an excellent understanding of best practice in music education, experience of directing musical ensembles and groups across all genres of music, and the ability to inspire young people.

This is an exciting time to join us, Bristol Beacon has a vision to make Bristol the UK capital of Young People’s Music, and in September 2018, we started work on our redevelopment project to transform Bristol Beacon into an international standard arts venue.

This role will cover the maternity leave and hold the work of our existing Primary Music Lead and provide a continuous approach to setting the strategy for this work, with a focus on creating CPD opportunities for our Music Tutors and Practitioners to enhance our service and reputation. The role will work with school partners to develop programmes of work and is being offered on a permanent basis as it will be retained to work alongside the existing team in anticipation of the refreshed National Plan for Music Education being announced in 2022.
