Piano Teacher

£21,150 – £35,460 Dependant on experience

To deliver instrumental or vocal tuition within a core offer for students aged 5 to 18, monitoring overall progress and development of students and facilitating learning which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential. Contributing to the provision of activities out of school hours (such as ensembles, orchestras, choirs) within schools and music centres as appropriate.

Learning and Teaching
• To provide music or vocal instruction to students according to their educational needs, including the setting and marking of objectives to be carried out by the student
• To plan individual lessons and overall schemes of work for students
• To develop knowledge of materials and repertoire for students at different stages of their musical development;
• To teach individual and/or group lessons lasting from 15 minutes to an hour or longer, usually incorporating elements of general musicianship, such as ear training and theory, as well as instrumental technique and interpretation
• To prepare and teach whole class lessons where appropriately allocated
• To prepare pupils for performances, examinations, auditions and festivals
• To communicate with parents about their child’s lessons and progress, including attendance at Parent Consultation events
• To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of students and to keep such records as are required
• To ensure a high-quality learning experience for students in line with internal and external quality standards
• To work with groups of musicians such as choirs, bands and ensembles where required
• planning and working on own professional development by gaining further teaching or performance qualifications and continuing your own performance activity;

Strategic development
• To assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies for BMT and to review regularly methods of teaching and programmes of work
• Have due regard to inclusivity and diversity and ensure that all young musicians are positively encouraged to engage with all BMT provision
• To engage in marketing and promotional activities at a level expected by BMT of all teachers
Personal and professional development
• To take part in the staff development programme including participating in arrangements for further training and professional development
• To continue personal development in the relevant areas including subject knowledge and teaching methods
• To engage actively in Line Management and Joint Professional Development processes
• To extend own musical experience by becoming familiar with the music pupils listen to, by learning another instrument, by becoming familiar with other musical styles and by developing own improvisation or vocal skills
Quality monitoring and assurance
• Quality check documents, records, information and presentations to ensure that all work exceeds the required standards
• Work within prescribed systems and procedures to ensure that activities are responsive to changing customer requirements and legislatively compliant
• Ensure an effective and responsive service is provided to all staff and visitors across BMT activity

Other
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and to attend BMT training in this area at all times
• Undertake such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with roles of this level within the BMT
• Responsible for own health and safety and that of students and colleagues, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and relevant EC directives
• Adhere to the BMT Equality policy in all activities, and actively promote equality of opportunity
