We are currently looking for enthusiastic and passionate peripatetic teachers to deliver high quality individual and small group music tuition in schools and at our music centres. You will have the opportunity to enhance and develop your career across all areas of the music service including ensemble direction and performance opportunities, together with a mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced tuition. Dependent on the instrument, there will be the opportunity to get involved in our In2Music programme and teaching whole classes in KS2.

  • Saxophone specialist – Reading/Newbury area. This would include a Tuesday night at Newbury. This has the potential to be full time if combined with general woodwind.
  • Clarinet specialist – Reading/Newbury area. This has the potential to be full time if combined with general woodwind.
  • Percussion (orchestral percussion preferred) – 0.5 to full time for the right candidate. Based in the Wokingham area.
  • Double Bass or electric bass teacher – part time. We have teaching available at our music centres with a small amount during the school day and happy for a double bass specialist who is willing to learn some electric bass or an electric bass specialist who is happy to learn how to teach double bass beginners.
  • Piano – Saturday morning at our Reading Music Centre.
  • Early Years – no need to have specific early years experience – all training will be given. Part time and flexible during the week.
Graduate Teachers

Starting Salary: £19 000 plus car allowance

We’re looking for graduate teachers in the following areas:

  • Woodwind
  • Double Bass/Bass Guitar
  • Early Years
  • Orchestral Percussion

If you’re a new graduate and want to start a teaching career then Berkshire Maestros offers a complete 2 year training package. We offer support with either the CME or ABRSM teaching diploma when you feel you are ready.

If you start as a graduate teacher with us, you will receive:

  • An opportunity to learn on the job with a reduced timetable.
  • Training with the other graduates.
  • An experienced mentor in your instrumental area
  • The opportunity to try different elements of music education, this might be working in alternative provision, SEND education, community music for example our singing cafes, conducting an ensemble, or even coaching or leading sectionals for our county ensembles.

We are happy to consider both full and part time graduates looking to launch their careers in music education.
