Havering Music School is the schools’ music service and music education hub lead for the London Borough of Havering (East London). We teach around 3,000 children a week individually and in small and large groups. We are known for the high standard of our ensemble work and our students and staff get to work regularly with world class musicians in many genres and from different traditions. Our friendly team enjoys regular training and we work in partnership with our neighbouring boroughs to enhance opportunities for staff and students alike.

About the posts currently available:

Brass tutor – required January 2020
Due to relocation, we are looking for an enthusiastic tutor able to teach across the range of upper and lower brass (specialism not important). We have some peripatetic work available in the week plus teaching and ensembles at the Music Centre on Wednesday evenings (up to 8pm) and Saturday morning (8.35 to 12.35) during term.
We would love to rebuild our Youth Brass Band, which was previously our flagship ensemble and rehearses on Wednesday evenings. The right candidate may also be able to take on our Youth Orchestra, which rehearses after Brass Band.

Cello tutor
We are looking for an inspiring cellist to take on peripatetic teaching in schools. At present, students are predominantly key stage 2 (age 7-11), taught as individuals and groups of two or three. There is room for growth in cello teaching in the borough and we will support you to achieve this.
Ideally you will also be available to cover at our Saturday Music Centre at short notice. This runs 8.25am to 12.35pm during term.

Oboe tutor
We have oboe students – including a grade 7 – who need a specialist tutor at Weekday Music Centre on Wednesday evenings. There are opportunities to start building oboe teaching in schools as well, in which we can support an enthusiastic candidate.
It would be helpful if you could also offer Saturday morning cover, sometimes at short notice.

Clarinet tutor
We need an additional clarinet tutor to take on tuition at our Wednesday Music Centre. Initially it is just a couple of hours from 4:30pm but there is potential to build this to 3½ hours’ work on a Wednesday and to take on work on Tuesday evenings and peripatetic work in schools.

If you can offer more than one instrument, please apply once for your main specialism and mention your other instrument(s) in your personal statement.
