Hertfordshire Music Service (HMS) believes that every child in Hertfordshire should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Running a network of music centres and working in schools across the county, HMS complements a school’s existing provision with opportunities to participate in groups and ensembles at both local and county level. With a strong workforce of fully vetted and DBS checked individuals, HMS is committed to ensuring music makes a positive contribution to children’s lives.

Expertise in the following instruments are currently in demand:

  • West area – Piano, guitar, brass, violin, percussion, cello, and contemporary voice.
  • East area – Piano, guitar, brass, violin, percussion, djembe, junior and intermediate wind band tuition, and ukulele.

We are currently seeking vibrant music tutors to fill several positions at HMS and use their experience and professional expertise to change the lives of children through a musical journey.

New teachers must be enthusiastic, encouraging and supportive. The role can involve 1:1 teaching, small group sessions, whole class teaching and can take place during the school day, evenings and Saturday mornings.

Experience working with primary and secondary children is advantageous. This role may involve travel between agreed locations and therefore having your own vehicle is preferred, but not essential.

Our new teachers must be able to commit to deliver 33 teaching weeks over the academic year. Working hours will be agreed together with HMS. Your pay will be determined on the HMS pay scale (to be discussed on appointment). Teachers can progress higher up the pay scale through successful performance management.
