We are seeking an experienced and engaging Musical Director(s) for the Surrey County Youth Wind Orchestra (SCYWO). This will be for a three year fixed-term from September 2018 to August 2021, with potential to renew at that time.

The orchestra, which has recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary, is one of our flagship ensembles. It is a symphonic-style wind orchestra with over 50 talented young woodwind, brass and percussion players from all parts of Surrey who gain their place by audition. The orchestra, which performs a wide variety of music ranging from original wind orchestra works to lighter film and seasonal music, rehearses near Guildford from 6.45 – 9.00 pm on Friday evenings (term time only) and aims to give one or two concerts each term. The orchestra works at a high level and has performed at concert venues throughout Surrey including G Live, Epsom Playhouse, Farnham Maltings, and Dorking Halls plus major London venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican.

As a Conductor, you would be responsible for selecting repertoire and making musical decisions together with the team of professional tutors. As Musical Director, you would be responsible for managing rehearsals, as well as overseeing tutors and student attendance. As the person in charge of fifty young people you would also be expected to have a full understanding of other important areas such as Safeguarding and Health & Safety.
