Sheffield Music Hub is excited to be advertising for a full time Manager.

We are seeking a visionary, experienced music and education professional to join our team. The new manager will work in a team together with the Head of Music Education Sheffield, one other experienced Manager and our Operations Manager. Together we will work to lead the vision of the Sheffield Music Hub, inspiring others and developing future capacity.

We are a reflective musical community that is committed to inclusivity and creativity. We work hard to understand how we can best represent the musical interests and aspirations of children and young people from every corner of Sheffield. We have a growing reputation as an innovative Music Education Hub willing to drive change through authentic projects and programmes of activity delivered both directly, and in partnership with our strong and growing network of partners.

We recognise that we have work to do to develop our strategic thinking and linked project work in all areas of our delivery. As we plan our COVID recovery we are looking for someone who brings a breadth of experience and we welcome applications from professionals who are either experienced in the work of Music Education Hubs or from those who can contribute to the development of our values, aims and objectives with experience from the wider musical, creative or education sector.

The four pillars underpinning all of our development plans are: Diversity, Digital, Communities of Learners and Access. COVID has taught us that we have a huge amount of capacity to adapt to change, and our digital offer has accelerated rapidly with the support of a new Music Tech team to transform and help us bridge the gap in access and opportunity for every child and young person. We look forward to bringing about sustained, swift and innovative change.

We are proud of the strategic development of our work with Looked After Children through a partnership with the Sheffield Virtual School and our work with talented young musicians who face barriers to musical progression through our partnership with Awards for Young Musicians, but recognise we have more to do. We seek to build on this work and our award winning projects such as Hubfest to fast track our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy.

Sheffield Music Service, as the Lead organisation for Sheffield Music Education Hub, has a thriving programme of activity including whole class instrumental teaching, singing, specialist tuition and after school music groups and ensembles. Collectively we work with around 15,000 children and young people a week. We employ a dedicated team of Music Leaders (30 FTE) and also work with a growing team of freelance, accredited teachers.

Our new manager will be joining us during a period of change as we adapt to life post COVID. We look to stabilise our organisation with a view to future growth, develop our partnerships, strengthen our good relationships and overarching strategy with schools.

This post will focus on improving the quality of teaching and learning outcomes, musical diversity and the support of vulnerable children, whilst continuing to develop our thriving and exceptional music education offer. This change brings further opportunity to explore and develop our plans for a purpose built Music Education Centre for our city, working closely with our partners Sheffield Music Academy (one of 15 DfE funded Centres for Advanced Training).

We expect our teachers to believe in the best for every pupil and school they work with. We want a member of the team who believes in the transformative power of music education, understands how to get the best possible musical outcomes from everyone and is able to galvanise and help shape a dedicated and talented teaching team.

Sheffield is a beautiful city, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country and boasts a varied and expanding cultural, creative and music scene; there is a growing momentum for change. Quality of life is high, green space and access to open countryside go hand in hand with a vibrant city economy. We are committed to placing the work of the Music Hub at the heart of our great city, being inspired musically by our environment, our children and young people, their many cultures and lived experiences.
