Music Centre Managers

3-5 hrs p/wk p/music centre for 36 weeks a year

To manage and develop a Music Centre/Music Centres in Staffordshire.

The post holder is specifically responsible for:

• Ensuring a high-quality ensemble provision for the local area
• Developing and maintaining the Music Centre
• Providing imaginative leadership and a sense of identity and purpose to staff and students attending the centre
• Managing Health & Safety and Child Protection for the Centre by working with the identified H+S Lead

The post holder is specifically responsible for:

  • Ensuring a high-quality ensemble provision for the local area
  • Developing and maintaining the Music Centre
  • Providing imaginative leadership and a sense of identity and purpose to staff and students attending the centre
  • Managing Health & Safety and Child Protection for the Centre by working with the identified H+S Lead

The range of duties are:

  • Developing and maintaining the activities of the Centre as a vibrant focus for music in the local community
  • Outreach and promotion of the Centre, for example through:
    • community liaison and involvement
    • visiting schools
    • working with other local partners
    • liaison with teachers and parents
  • Assisting with recruiting and supervising staff
  • Effective oversight of all sessions when the Centre is open
  • Attending and contributing to meetings for all Centre Managers
  • Planning and timetabling of the centre’s programme with the SMT
  • Liaison with the host school/venue as necessary
  • Organising external/internal activities and events
  • Maintaining oversight of the centre’s annual budget
  • Dealing with enquiries from members of the public
  • Working with the senior team to produce and review statistical summaries of Centre data to inform future planning
  • Leading centre groups if/when required
  • Managing the resources based at the centre venue
  • Working with the local ‘Friends’ organisation to best support the offer
  • Co-ordinating volunteers at the centre
  • Identifying the training needs for group leaders

The post holder should be able to demonstrate the following essential skills:

  • The ability to provide imaginative leadership for the area and centre
  • The ability to lead a team and motivate staff and students
  • Effective communication
  • Organisational skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to understand and work within a budget
  • Ability to lead an ensemble as/when required

The post holder will be expected to have the following knowledge and understanding of:

  • Music education
  • The local community and school context
  • Safeguarding
  • Health and Safety
  • Equal Opportunities
  • An understanding of good customer service

Hours and Pay

Between 3-5 hours per week across the 36 weeks of the year depending on the size of centre or number of centres covered. Hours will be added to contracted time for internal candidates.

For external applicants, a casual or permanent part-time contract will be offered for the agreed hours.

Staffordshire Music Centres operate at evenings and weekends and applicants will need to be available and willing to work at these times.
