Surrey Arts currently has a vacancy for a Mixed Woodwind teacher, initially for 10 hours per week, but with potential to increase these hours and develop a much larger timetable. The teaching will include working Saturday mornings at a music centre near Guildford. Salary range is £24.41 to £34.11 per hour dependent on the type of teaching group.

Tutors will be eligible to join the Surrey County Council pension scheme and will have the option to take advantage of the car lease scheme, subject to certain criteria.

Tutors are supported by an instrumental team lead and are able to attend various Inset day/workshops throughout the year. There is constant support from a dedicated music administrator, line manager and the instrumental team leads.

About the role

Surrey Arts are looking to recruit a teacher of Mixed Woodwind. The teacher should be able to offer instrumental teaching to individuals and small groups on Oboe, Flute and Saxophone to an intermediate standard. They should be able to offer at least one instrument to a higher standard. The teaching would be in the West Surrey area, initially for 10 hours per week, but with potential to increase these hours and develop a much larger timetable. The teaching will include Saturday mornings at a music centre near Guildford.

We are looking for a motivated and committed instrumental mixed woodwind tutor to join our thriving team of music tutors. You will be part of exciting projects, delivering group and individual lessons to children and adults at various schools and venues around the county. Surrey Arts run various ensembles around the county giving tutors the opportunity to be part of these too.

In this role you will be supported by a team of administrators who will organize your schedule and timetables and will be in regular contact with parents, schools and yourself to ensure the service delivered to meet our high expectations.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a recognized music diploma, degree or other recognised qualification
  • Possesses specialist knowledge of your instrument and is able to perform to a high standard, with a passion for continued learning and development
  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Is aware of current initiatives in the UK music education system
  • Experience of individual/group teaching
  • Holds a full UK driving license and has access to a vehicle
