Leader for School Engagement

£36,922 – £39,880 dependent upon experience

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator who is passionate about increasing engagement in, and the standard of music in schools. This is a full-time leadership position with both management and key stages 1 and 2 teaching responsibilities. The scope of this role is to lead West Sussex Music activities and line-manage a team of staff. The successful person will demonstrate an uncompromising and highly successful drive to create and build relationships with schools, manage our WCET programmes and CPD offer for school-based teachers.

Position: Permanent, full time (52 week), 37.5 hours/wk

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

West Sussex Music is looking for an individual with proven ability to raise standards through their inspirational teaching, leadership and relationship skills. The successful person must:

1. Develop a range of music activities that meets the needs of children and young people, schools and community and maximises access to high quality music education
2. Foster and develop excellent relationships with schools, parents, partnership organisations and the local community and work in partnership with other organisations to develop opportunities for school-based projects
3. Lead, manage and increase school engagement levels for West Sussex Music WCET programmes and resources
4. Provide professional support to West Sussex Music staff and school-based staff and deliver/organise CPD for school-based colleagues
5. Research, evaluate and interpret a range of demographic, educational and arts-based data to identify and create needs-based music education analyses to underpin the schools’ engagement strategy across the county
6. Collaborate with the leadership team and teaching team to support and create access routes to learning
7. Embed equality, diversity and inclusion in all activity and contribute to the West Sussex Music EDI strategy
8. Create and manage financial budgets, ensuring best value through financial oversight of the organised events
9. Manage a team of teachers and undertake any other activity / responsibility that may reasonably be requested by the Senior Leadership Team
10. Be conversant with all West Sussex Music policies including for IT and Data Protection, Safeguarding and Child Protection and Emergency Plan, and ensure your team demonstrates compliance
11. Be responsible for your own CPD needs and to keep up to date with national musical developments

In order to carry out the key responsibilities other duties may include, but will not be restricted to:

a. Supporting teachers to improve the quality of teaching and learning
b. Keeping up to date with leading edge developments in music education
c. Advising and assisting in the recruitment and appointment of staff
d. Ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources
e. Taking the initiative to advance the overall quality of provision in the county
f. Providing detailed advice and guidance to other senior staff on the quality of teaching and learning
g. Attending and organising engagement activities to network and build relevant music education relationships across the county
h. Attending and contributing to local and national conferences and training

It is expected that the post-holder will display a wide range of skills, including being:
• An outstanding classroom music practitioner
• An inspiring teacher
• An effective communicator who is able to provide leadership to others
• Able to represent West Sussex Music eloquently e.g. at meetings and concerts
• Up to date with national music education developments and new thinking
• Understanding of the needs of schools and other stakeholders
• An effective user of IT (Office 365)
