Hertfordshire Music Service is currently seeking instrumental teachers to teach a variety of instruments in various locations across Hertfordshire, please see information below for the specific areas and instruments we currently have teaching vacancies for.

Our vision is that all Hertfordshire’s children and young people, regardless of background or circumstances, can discover or develop their unique musical voice and express themselves through the language of music.

What will be expected from me?

The role can involve individual, shared, and small group teaching, whole class teaching and ensemble direction. Teaching can take place during the school day, evenings, and Saturday mornings. Travel between agreed locations may be required and therefore having your own vehicle is preferred but not essential. Evening and Saturday morning work takes place at music centres that are accessible by train from London.

Our teachers must be able to commit to deliver 33 teaching weeks over the academic year. Pay is determined on the HMS pay scale (to be discussed on appointment). Teachers can progress up the pay scale through successful performance management (HMS Main Pay Scale Range – £29,005 p/a to £33,804).

  • Violin teacher(s) required in South Herts, and the St Albans area, especially for Saturday mornings and other teaching across the week.
  • Woodwind teacher(s) required in the Watford area, especially for evening teaching.
  • Instrumental teacher required in St. Albans for leading Saturday morning music groups with KS1 and KS2 pupils.
  • Brass teacher(s) required for Mid Herts, Watford, and St. Albans areas across the week.
  • Piano teacher(s) required in Watford and Dacorum areas, for up to five evenings a week as well as Saturday mornings.
