These 6 fundamental value principles mean everything to us, and as individuals, teams, and an organisation, we will never behave in a way that contradicts our values.
Our culture is one of supportive innovation, development, and progression. As a Music Service we strive to develop and offer an inclusive array of musical learning opportunities and experiences, to reach more learners and musically enrich their lives. This is Create, Learn & Grow in action, and our team are the beating heart of this.
We encourage innovation, create a safe and supportive environment for idea and product development and support our colleagues to grow, personally and professionally along the way.
Professional & Career Development
Being curious and creative is baked into who we are. Learning and professionally developing because of this approach to work means that opportunities to develop your knowledge, skills and experience at Hertfordshire Music Service are everywhere. Through a comprehensive annual programme of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities, and a supportive contractual CPD time allocation, the Hertfordshire Music Service team is encouraged and supported to be curious and creative, learn and grow.
Work-Life Balance & Flexibility
Working with learners is a demanding job – if you’re not on the road or in the classroom, you’re updating records or responding to emails. No one aspect of the job is less important or demanding. We know this, and we appreciate that you do too. With that in mind, work-life balance is important to us. We have a great people management structure at Hertfordshire Music Service, and you can expect regular opportunities to check in with your people manager and to talk to them about your workload, and if you want to, about how you are doing more generally too. We take an empathetic approach to work and our people. We will listen and where we can, we will make reasonable adjustments to support you through times in your life where a supportive employer can make a big difference. If you need to talk to us, we will always listen.
What will be expected of you?
This Drum Teacher role focuses mainly upon tuition of individuals and small groups in Music Centres in the Stevenage and Hitchin areas, with the potential to build teaching in schools. Teaching will mostly take place after school and into the early evenings, with daytime and Saturday work also possible. You will be expected to maintain the high standards we expect of each other, for the children and young people we inspire and will always be guided by the aims and intentions of our Teaching & Learning Standards Framework. Travel between agreed locations may be required and therefore having your own vehicle is preferred but not essential.
Our teachers must always commit to delivering at least 33 teaching weeks over the academic year. Working hours will be agreed with your People Manager. Pay will be within the range outlined above, will be discussed upon appointment and is dependent upon your skills and experience. All Instrumental / Vocal Teachers can progress through the pay scale via successful performance management.
