Support the efficient and successful delivery of Babcock LDP Music instrument loan/hire to individuals, schools and funded ensembles/organisations across Devon/Torbay Music Education Hubs. You will contribute to Babcock LDP Music and Devon/Torbay Music Education Hubs’ strategy in line with Babcock LDP objectives, National Plan for Music Education priorities and Arts Council England funding requirements; as well as ensuring all children and young people in Devon and Torbay have access to a wide variety of high quality music experiences.

Major Tasks and Activities:

• Working as part of a team, deliver the efficient provision of instrument loan/hire to individuals, schools and funded ensembles/organisations;
• Assess instruments and equipment for necessary cleaning, repair and maintenance;
• Carry out routine cleaning of all instruments before release on hire / loan;
• Carry out routine repair and maintenance of instruments in at least one major category (i.e. one or more of woodwind, brass, strings);
• Maintain and prepare First Access instrument sets and accessories for schools e.g. ocarinas, ukuleles, recorders;
• Maintain and log stock levels of instrument accessories (rosin, valve oil, mouthpieces etc.) and re-order as needed;
• Maintain and prepare world percussion sets for schools, e.g. samba, djembes, steel pans;
• Track demand for instruments and condition of current stock, identify shortfall and liaise with wider team to facilitate purchase of appropriate new & replacement instruments;
• Unpack, check & label all new stock;
• Maintain music library including checking scores/parts in & out and cataloguing new music;
• Periodically assess and dispose of old/unused stock;
• Assist with logistics at events, such as concerts, festivals and conferences, including on-site set up and loading and unloading of vehicles;
• Transport instruments and equipment to / from rehearsals and other events where necessary using Babcock LDP or hired vehicles;
• Use database (Syrinx) to maintain & update stock records & status;
• Interact with schools and customers for planning deliveries/collections in conjunction with Administration & Facilities Co-ordinator;
• Promote musical events and opportunities to parents, schools and wider communities, to increase participation

Key Accountabilities and Deliverables for the role:

• Contribute to regular Operations Team meetings;
• Contribute to robust and efficient operational and administrative planning and procedures.

Role measures:

• Babcock LDP Music provides a successful and efficient instrument loan/hire service to individuals, schools and funded ensembles/organisations across Devon and Torbay.

Additional Key Accountabilities:

• Protect assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference;
• Comply with the Data Protection Act 2018.

Financial Responsibility:

• Ensure that revenue generated from services such as instrument hire is accurately invoiced, collected and recorded;
• Ensure appropriate measures are followed for the commissioning of work and purchasing of resources, including musical instruments.

What do I need to do the role?

Sector Knowledge

• Personal skills or an interest in musical performance.
• Knowledge of the role of Music Education Hubs in delivering the National Plan for Music Education;
• Basic practical instrument repair skills with the desire and aptitude to develop these further.

Required Skills/Education/Qualifications

• Outstanding organisational, administrative and communication skills – essential;
• Relevant experience in a similar role – desirable;

Knowledge and Skills

• Practical instrument repair skills with the desire and aptitude to develop these further – essential;
• Knowledge of a wide range of musical instruments, digital music technology and related equipment/resources – essential;
• Attention to detail and a conscientious can do approach to work – essential;
• Outstanding spoken and written communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise with internal and external agencies and stakeholders – desirable;
• Outstanding IT skills, including a working knowledge of internet and social media as a means of communication and learning – desirable;

Essential experience:
• Personal skills or an interest in musical performance.

Desirable:
• Experience of working within the music education and/or wider arts sectors.

What else do I need to know?
