Head of Strings

Up to £42,800 depending on experience, plus allowance

Relocation assistance available

Required for September 2017 or January 2018

A well-qualified, inspiring musician and experienced string player is required to join our large and vibrant Music department as a full-time Head of Strings. It is likely that the successful candidate will be a first study violinist.

The music department has 8 full-time and 35 visiting staff. Within the String Faculty there are 9 teachers who currently deliver over 150 individual lessons each week. Currently we have three string orchestras. In addition, there are 2 symphony orchestras, five choirs, symphonic wind band, jazz band and many chamber ensembles.

The Head of Strings will direct string orchestras, teach individual instrumental lessons and manage faculty staff. They will report to the Director of Music and work alongside other full-time staff, including Heads of Keyboard, Singing, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion. Ability as a piano accompanist and/or ability to teach within the curriculum might be advantageous, but not essential.

As one of the world’s leading schools, and with a strong pioneering heritage, our aim is to embody excellence, independence and empowerment in the education of young women. Music plays a central part in the life of the College. The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive community of dedicated professionals who believe that girls are at the heart of all we do. We are ambitious for their futures, collectively and individually, and have been so for over 160 years.
