Following the appointment of our current successful Head of Music Service to a new position with Devon LDP Music Service, an exciting leadership opportunity has arisen with Cognus Limited as Head of Sutton Music Service (lead partner in the Sutton Music Hub). Cognus Limited is looking for a dynamic and forward thinking individual with an inclusive vision to lead our exciting work with children and young people, schools and local communities in the London Borough of Sutton.

As lead partner in the Sutton Music Hub, Sutton Music Service works with a range of partner organisations to create all kinds of opportunities for children and young people in the London Borough of Sutton to have an excellent, high quality music education. Supported using public funding by the Department for Education and Arts Council England, we are tasked with delivering the aspirations of the National Plan for Music Education. Sutton Music Service is part of Cognus Limited, a private company jointly owned by the London Borough of Sutton and local schools.

The successful candidate will:

• Take the lead strategic responsibility for the work of Sutton Music Service, including all matters relating to music education provision for Cognus Limited

• Lead the Sutton Music Hub, initiating and developing relationships with a wide range of local, regional and national hub partner organisations to deliver the aspirations of the National Plan for Music Education

• Ensure that all children and young people in Sutton can benefit from music education opportunities and experiences of the highest quality

• Provide expert and detailed advice to Cognus Limited and the Sutton Music Hub Board on national policies and expectations relating to music education and to advise local schools/settings on music provision

• Develop and manage new and existing projects to ensure the breadth and quality of music education opportunities, enabling every young musician to fulfil their potential

• Maintain and generate new revenue from existing and new customers

• Oversee a team of managers, instrumental/vocal tutors and self-employed Approved Instrumental Teachers in the delivery of music service provision while ensuring efficiency and quality

• Create and maintain clear, measurable business plans and budgets for Sutton Music Service and Sutton Music Hub, ensuring financial effectiveness and resilience in line with the Company’s annual business plan and reporting requirements to DfE/Arts Council England, other funders, the Cognus Senior management team and Board.
