Ensemble Lead
The Ensembles Lead is responsible for the strategic development, quality assurance and delivery of ensembles provision across Hampshire Music Service and the wider Music Education Hub.
The Role
Hampshire Music Service is the lead partner for the Hampshire Music Education Hub, delivering high-quality music education to over 10,000 pupils each week. Our work is supported by a dedicated team of around 160 specialist music teachers working across schools, settings and communities throughout the county.

We are seeking an inspirational and strategic Ensembles Lead to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced music educator and leader to shape inclusive, high quality ensemble provision across the county.

What You’ll Do
The Ensembles Lead is responsible for the strategic development, quality assurance and delivery of ensembles provision across Hampshire Music Service and the wider Music Education Hub.
You will lead the ensemble staff team, oversee planning and policy, and support the delivery of inclusive, creative and progressive ensemble opportunities. Using data and evaluation to inform strategy, you will ensure provision is accessible, relevant and of the highest quality.
Alongside your strategic responsibilities, you will model excellent musical and teaching practice, lead ensemble projects, and contribute to professional development for staff, schools and partners.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting the ensemble staff team, including recruitment, induction, mentoring and ongoing professional development.
- Developing, implementing and embedding the ensembles strategy across Hampshire Music Service, the Hub and partner organisations.
- Leading the design and delivery of inclusive and creative ensemble provision.
- Working closely with the Head of Service on strategic planning and service development.
- Modelling high quality ensemble direction and music education practice.
- Supporting and delivering CPD for HMS staff, schools and other settings.
- Contributing to staff induction with a focus on ensemble delivery.
- Supporting the coordination and delivery of ensemble events, residentials, tours and visits.
- Leading monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance of ensemble provision.
- Establishing strong, professional relationships across the HMS and Hub community.
- Planning and delivery of events, trips and residentials for ensembles.

You will be an experienced music educator with a strong background in ensemble leadership and a clear commitment to inclusion, access and excellence. You will bring strategic thinking, strong communication skills and the ability to inspire and develop others with experience of planning and delivery of events, trips and residentials.
You will be passionate about ensuring all children and young people have the opportunity to engage with, be empowered by and excel through music.
