Development Manager

£11,088 pa (£18 per hour) 14 hours p/week, 44 weeks p/a

We are a successful community Orchestra fast becoming a key player in the Sunderland cultural scene. Supported by Arts Council England, we are commencing an exciting phase of growth and are seeking a Development Manager ideally with experience in community arts development, a track record in building arts appeal and a passion about performing arts.

Sunderland Symphony Orchestra is a registered charity; it is a successful and forward thinking community Orchestra. The Orchestra is becoming a key player in the cultural scene of the City. Our aim is to provide friendly, inspiring, creative, life-long musical experiences for all in our City. We have recently been reviewing our development and with the support of Arts Council England, we are about to commence a new phase of developmental activity.

We are seeking to appoint a Development Manager who will enthusiastically embrace and help us realise our ambitions for the future. To be considered for this opportunity you will ideally have experience in the field of community arts development, with a proven track record in building the arts appeal and audience demography. You will also develop a more resilient marketing strategy for the Orchestra and lead digital initiatives. Experience of writing successful grant applications is also essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to engage with a group of dedicated inter-generational music makers who bring orchestral music to the City of Sunderland. We are looking for someone with a passion for the performing arts, someone with a strong vision of how the Orchestra can achieve and surpass its potential and enhance our community engagement and recognition. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivery of a budgeted development plan working effectively and in partnership with our Orchestra committee.
