Development Assistant

£21,000 FTE per annum pro rata 0.4FTE

The purpose of the Development Assistant is to support the management team (principally across operations management, funding development and audience development). This is a new role and will suit someone wishing to make a real difference whilst enjoying flexibility in working arrangements.

Context

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (Youth and Children’s Bands) is the UK’s leading brass band for children and teenagers.

The Band exists to give exceptionally gifted young brass and percussion instrumentalists the opportunity to perform advanced music and receive the highest quality teaching, care and help to provide the brass band movement and the music profession with the next generation of brass players. At all times the Band’s priority is the safety and well-being of the brass musicians of the future.

Not only does the Band provide talented youngsters with opportunities to play brass music to the highest standard, but also to improve their musicianship and musical horizons.

Overall Purpose

Reporting to the CEO the purpose of the Development Assistant is to support the management team (principally across operations management, funding development and audience development) so that the Band meets the goals of its strategic plan.

This is a new role and will suit someone wishing to make a real difference whilst enjoying flexibility in working arrangements.

General

  • To develop a good understanding of how the Band and how it operates, its structure and the specific challenges faced.
  • To participate in quarterly Trustee Meetings (when required) and be present at the Band’s courses and events.
  • To liaise and collaborate with the CEO and other members of staff wherever necessary to achieve the most effective, consistent and joined-up approach.

Specific

  • To support the development of the Band so that it meets its strategic objectives, more specifically;Schedule and coordinate trustee (and critical management) meetings, collate and distribute papers, take minutes
  • Create and maintain filing systems, both electronic i.e. documents and physical I.e. the Band’s music library
  • Manage distribution of Band communications i.e. bulk mails, social media posts etc
  • Keeping the website updated e.g. What’s On, press releases, textural amendments, photo swaps etc
  • Supporting sales and customer enquiries through ticketing applications e.g. Eventbrite
  • Acting as the Bands operational contact with our out-sourced finance management and book-keeping service to ensure sales and purchase transactions are up to date and providers of goods and services are paid in a timely fashion
  • Keeping fundraising, mail and social media contacts and databases up to date with due cognisance to GDPR requirements
  • Keeping membership forms and databases up to date with due cognisance to safeguarding and GDPR requirements
  • Attending and providing general support for the smooth running of Youth Band and Children’s Band courses

Hours

This role is for on average 16 hours per week. There may be opportunity for development of the role and the hours worked in the future.
