Conductor of local Youth Orchestra based in Hitchin
Hertfordshire Music Service is currently looking for a new conductor for the North Herts Youth Orchestra. This orchestra rehearses every Monday evening (during term time) at Benslow Music from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The age range of the orchestra is approximately 12 to18, with players currently being of around Grade 4/5 to Grade 8+ standard. It serves as a regular training ground for the Hertfordshire Schools Symphony Orchestra and the County Youth Orchestra, of which some of its more advanced players are already members. It is a small orchestra (about 40 regular players) who are very committed.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of musicianship, proven conducting skills and will need to be enthusiastic and committed to working with young people. They will need to have a good knowledge of appropriate repertoire and interested in researching works that will suit the orchestra’s membership. Keyboard skills are an advantage.
This position is subject to annual review.
The successful candidate will be paid at the appropriate level on the Hertfordshire Music Service pay scale.
