Wolverhampton Music Service seeks applications for the post of ‘Conductor of Wolverhampton Youth Orchestra’ from September 2017, and is looking for applicants with the following qualities to fulfil this exciting position:

Wolverhampton Music Service is committed to the provision of an inclusive and accessible musical education which reflects both the diversity of cultures in our city and the long standing and strong musical tradition of which the city is very proud. The Music School is the centre for many musical activities run throughout the city and every week around 600 children take part in bands, orchestras and other ensembles. These include three string orchestras, two symphony orchestras, two wind bands, a wind orchestra, a brass ensemble, a woodwind ensemble, a guitar ensemble, an Indian music group, a steel pan group and a percussion ensemble.
Players in the Youth Orchestra are aged between fourteen and nineteen years old and nearly all attend school in Wolverhampton. Our two top ensembles, the Youth Orchestra and the Youth Wind Orchestra, have a very high reputation, both locally and nationally, and have undertaken annual foreign tours for the last 35 years, the most recent having been to Malta, Spain, & Italy.
Annual pay for this post will be a total fee of £2,338 and will include the following responsibilities:
• 31 term time rehearsals on a Saturday morning at Wolverhampton Music School from 9.00am until 12.00 noon
• Eight concerts each year (including a pre-concert rehearsal on the day of each concert) – Christmas Concert, May Concert, Pre-Tour Concert and five concerts on a foreign tour in the first week of the school summer break
• Full participation in the delivery and planning of an annual 8 day foreign tour in the first week of the school Summer break and a four day pre-tour site inspection visit towards the end of the school Easter break
• Attendance at other events will be required as follows: pre-tour rehearsal all day Saturday in July; tour photo shoot on a Sunday morning in May/June; auditions in May and other promotional events as required
