About the North East Music Hub

Formed in September 2024, the North East Music Hub is a consortium of seven local authority partners: Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, South Tyneside, Gateshead, Newcastle, Northumberland, and North Tyneside (Lead Partner). Funded by Arts Council England and the Department for Education, the Hub supports:

  • 897 schools
  • 288,616 pupils
  • 8 upper-tier local authority areas

Our mission is to ensure every child and young person, regardless of background, can access high-quality music education and progression opportunities.

The Role

The Chair will provide strategic leadership to the Hub Board, ensuring effective governance and impartial, evidence-based decision-making. You will oversee the delivery of the Hub’s priorities, including:

  • Youth Voice
  • Inclusion
  • Early Years
  • Sustainability
  • Progression
  • Schools Engagement

You will also recruit and lead a diverse Board that reflects the communities the Hub serves.

Key Responsibilities
  • Chair 4–6 meetings per year and approve SMART objectives and budgets.
  • Ensure financial and strategic oversight of Hub activities.
  • Work closely with the Consortium Leadership Group, Partnership Manager, and stakeholders.
  • Promote the Hub’s vision within education, culture, and the wider community.
Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of chairing meetings and fostering collaboration.
  • Demonstrates strong skills in strategic planning and financial oversight.
  • Is passionate about music education and breaking down barriers to access.
  • Understands the challenges faced by schools, children, and young people in the North East.
