The UP! Orchestra – Africa theme

  • 11th November 2017 - 11th November 2017
  • 10am - 1pm
  • The Bridge Youth Centre, Surrey

The UP! Orchestra, Surrey’s exciting orchestra for young aspiring musicians including those with SEND and from challenging backgrounds, is back for a new term. UP! is Surrey’s most inclusive orchestra with young musicians from a range of backgrounds performing together.

This term they will be celebrating diversity in Surrey and beyond through food and music. During each session they will explore music from a particular continent and invite parents, carers and staff to bring food that links to that continent to share during the session. For example, for Europe you might bring Scottish shortbread or tapas and for Asia and the Middle East samosas or hummus. The sharing of food will be a lovely way for everyone to connect beyond language and provides an energetic springboard to start the music activities!

These sessions are suitable for young people, aged 12 – 19 years (learning disabled 25, in care up to 21) of different musical abilities from complete beginners to experienced musicians of different backgrounds and musical interests.

The UP! Orchestra already has an amazing team of music tutors so how could we possibly better this…?  how about the prolific Cameroonian musician Muntu Valdo joining us on 11th November for our African session?

More information about our guest artist can be found here:
