Starting a Major Donor Programme From Scratch
This is designed for managers of organisations or projects, and grassroots music organisations and venues who want to develop revenue streams from donations.

This session may be most relevant to organisations that know wealthy people who may have given in the past, or who may be on the fringe of their networks.
- It will suggest ways for you to draw them closer to your work and create a meaningful relationship for both parties. It will look (briefly) at the long history of patronage of the arts as a way of reminding us all that it is entirely natural for people of means to want to support music and musicians. It will suggest ways of identifying people who may be able to help with larger than usual gifts.
- It will suggest how you might cultivate and deepen relationships with people who show an interest in supporting.
- It will talk about how you decide what to ask for, and when.
- It will stress the importance of keeping in touch properly and the potential for future gifts if you manage relationships well.
- It will help to take away the squeamishness that we might feel in asking and help frame our thinking about philanthropy in the arts.
- It will be interactive with Q&A ‘bus stops’ throughout and extended space for questions at the end.
