Secondary Music Leadership Certificate

This programme aims to provide tools to support teachers in developing a thriving music department and delivering a high quality curriculum appropriate to their local context.

This taught course comprises six twilight webinar training sessions across one term. These will be supported with access to online learning materials, and challenges, ideas and activities to try out in the classroom, culminating in a short assignment. On completion of the assignment participants will be awarded with the Music Education Solutions® Secondary Music Leadership Certificate.

Sessions 1 & 2 – Strategic Leadership of Music in your school: how to develop a plan to increase high quality engagement in school; how to advocate for Music with SLT, other colleagues and external parties, including parents; howto work with instrumental teachers, teaching assistants, music hubs and other external
providers.

Sessions 3 & 4 – Leading inclusive progression pathways: planning your curriculum at KS3 to support progression onto courses at KS4 and 5, satisfy an Ofsted Deep Dive, and be inclusive; choosing your exam board options for VQs, GCSEs and A-Level; planning your extra-curricular to support strong progression.

Sessions 5 & 6 – Assessing & tracking progress in your school: meaningful assessment to measure skills, knowledge and understanding; recording and communicating data to staff, to parents and students; assessing and tracking performing, composing and listening.
