  • 2nd July 2018 - 2nd July 2018
  • Newcastle University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne

The International Centre for Music Studies (ICMuS) at Newcastle University, in collaboration with the University of Roehampton and the National Association for Music in Higher Education (NAMHE), announces a one-day conference focusing on emergent musicality in the early years and how music educators, early years practitioners, teachers and parents/carers might support the long-term progression of children and young people’s musical learning.
The conference will feature two keynote addresses:

Professor Adam Ockelford of the University of Roehampton andProfessor Graham Welch, Chair of Music Education at University College London.

The International Centre for Music Studies at Newcastle University welcomes delegates who share our interest in early childhood music education and ensuring that progression routes for children and young people wishing to study music long-term are adequate. This one-day event will encourage consideration and debate on issues surrounding identifying and supporting the emergent musicality of very young children.

In addition to the keynote addresses, the day will include presentations by Dr Jessica Pitt, Dr Jane Todd and Dr Julia Partington, alongside opportunities for dialogue and debate.

Attend this event

The conference fee is £30 (free for students but a place must be booked) and includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
