Music Education Hub Support Programme: The role of the Chair post pandemic

  • 13th January 2021 - 13th January 2021
  • 12.30pm - 1.34pm
  • Zoom

Many of us are thinking through our role as a Chair as we lead our organisations through the pandemic. What are the strategic, financial, and human opportunities and challenges facing organisations and boards as we look ahead? How should Chairs think about when and how to transfer their energy from short term, emergency mode to more long term, strategic planning; and how can this be done without causing issues such as overloading staff members?

This lunchtime session, organised by Music Mark in collaboration with Association of Chairs, will share insight on the problems Chairs may face in changing gear into more long term thinking and how they might use creativity and resilience to get through these dilemmas. Following a presentation by the session leader, Beryl Hobson, there will be opportunity for you to ask questions, to share your own learning and experiences, and to hear from others.

The session will be held over the online platform, Zoom, enabling you to see the session leader and others joining the session face to face. Never used Zoom before? Do not worry! Following sign up we will send you a link to join the video call and instructions on how to use Zoom (e.g. how to check your sound and video are working).

The session will be led by Beryl Hobson, a member of Association of Chairs. Beryl is an experienced Chair in the private and public sector. In her former role as Head of the Large Charities Division at the Charity Commission, Beryl worked with the Boards of many charities to help them with governance issues. She was Chair of National Childbirth Trust, the UK’s largest parenting charity and has been a trustee on many boards, including serving as Vice-Chair of Womankind Worldwide. She is currently Non-Executive Chair of the Queen Victoria NHS Foundation Trust and founder of Professional Governance Services where she works with many charities on wide variety of interesting and complex governance issues.

This session will run from 12.30-1.45pm.
