Inclusive Instrumental Teaching & Accessible Ensembles

  • 31st January 2024
  • 4pm - 5.30pm
  • Online (Zoom)

As part of our New Directions in Inclusive Music series with MEHEM Uprising, this session will share practical tips on enabling neurodivergent and non-verbal pupils to experience high-quality, pupil-centred instrumental and ensemble provision.

Young Person playing the Ukulele, with young person in foreground playing a stringed instrument. Only the bow and instrument neck are visiable on the violin or cello.

All young people with additional learning needs should have the opportunity to experience high-quality, pupil-centred instrumental and ensemble provision. Easy to say, but a significant challenge to achieve. This webinar shares practical and strategic ideas to support colleagues to make this a reality.

The session will cover:

  • Designing one-to-one instrumental lessons in inclusive settings, including for neurodivergent and non-verbal pupils.
  • Founding and sustaining inclusive ensembles in special schools
  • Group composition in accessible ensembles
  • Embedding workshop-style techniques in SEMH curriculum music.

The webinar is suitable for practitioners and hub Inclusion Leads and leadership teams.

Speakers:

  • Jonathan Westrup (Open Up)
  • Elle Williams (Ashby Music)
  • Anna Wollof (Leicestershire Music)
  • Marianne Barraclough (Sinfonia Viva)
