Figurenotes: Developing Your Practice

  • 4th, 11th, & 18th November 2026
  • 09:30 - 11:30
  • Online (Zoom)

Learn accessible creative techniques to reach every student. This interactive course for music educators explores the fundamentals of music, using colourful Figurenotes as a tool. We’ll focus on rhythm, composition and creative play, and how to work with mixed-ability groups.

Delivered in small groups over 3 Wednesdays in November, the sessions are fun and interactive. You’ll be guided through how to use Figurenotes in a variety of ways to enhance your current teaching practice. Additional homework activities will cement your learning and help you apply it to your setting. You’ll finish the course with resources that are ready to use and a bucketload of inspiration from other educators.

After the main course, we offer a 1:1 follow-up with course leaders. This session is totally focused on you and your work.

Notation is the main reason people quit learning a musical instrument. Figurenotes takes the stress away from learning notation, using colour and shape to start learning pitch and rhythm. You then progress towards standard notation through 3 simple stages. This Finnish education tool is used globally and is especially helpful to beginners and anyone who may struggle with traditional note reading.

Make the most of free resources, such as notation software and a library of digital resources at figurenotes.org.
